RAG for business, short for retrieval-augmented generation, is when an AI assistant pulls real data from your business tools before it answers, instead of guessing from training data. CorpusIQ applies this across 40+ connectors: ask a question and ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity retrieves the relevant records from Gmail, QuickBooks, Shopify, or Drive, then answers with cited source links. The retrieval step is read-only. The answer is grounded in your data, so you can verify every claim.

A model on its own only knows its training data, which is generic and frozen in time. It does not know your overdue invoices, last week's orders, or what a customer said on Tuesday. Retrieval fixes that by fetching your current records at question time, so the answer reflects the state of your business now, not a guess.
CorpusIQ exposes retrieval-only connector tools with behavior-matched safety annotations, alongside separately named control-plane tools that write only to your CorpusIQ configuration. Retrieval can fetch the records needed for a question on demand across email, files, chat, accounting, ecommerce, and CRM.
A generic chatbot answers from memory and can sound confident while being wrong. A retrieval-based answer is grounded in your records and comes back with citations. You click the source link, see the underlying invoice, email, or order, and confirm the answer before you act on it.
Direct MCP reads records on demand and does not retain raw customer files or full connector response payloads. Operational query text, per-user tool-call metadata, and bounded outcome summaries may remain for up to 30 days; optional indexed search has a separate lifecycle. CorpusIQ does not use customer data to train models; conversation handling follows the selected AI provider's plan and settings. All connector tools are retrieval-only and do not write back to connected systems. The only tools that accept writes are CorpusIQ control-plane tools that manage your own CorpusIQ configuration, never your business data.
