How to Connect Google Docs to ChatGPT with CorpusIQ MCP¶
The decisions live in documents. The pricing brief, the board notes, the onboarding checklist, the contract redline. Finding the sentence you half remember means opening Drive, guessing at the title, and scrolling. Connecting Google Docs to ChatGPT through CorpusIQ MCP makes document text searchable and quotable in plain English, read-only, from the account you already use.
Direct MCP retrieval is read-only and does not retain raw customer files or full connector response payloads; operational query logs are retained for up to 30 days.
What Questions Can You Ask?¶
- "Summarize the pricing brief we updated last week."
- "Which document records the decision to move the launch date?"
- "What does the onboarding checklist say about connecting a data source?"
- "Pull the open questions from the board notes and group them by owner."
- "Which docs mention the Acme renewal, and what did we promise?"
Google Docs rarely answers a business question alone. The brief explains the plan, the CRM holds the account, the invoice holds the number. Connecting the documents is what lets one question cover all three.
FAQ: Common Questions¶
Is there a separate Google Docs connector?
No, and you do not need one. Google Docs is read through the Google Workspace connector, which covers Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, Google Analytics, Google Ads and Search Console in a single sign-in. Drive is the layer that reaches your documents. Is this read-only?
Yes. The connector lists and searches files and reads file contents. It cannot create, edit, rename, move, share or delete a document, and it never leaves a comment or accepts a suggestion. What file types can it read?
Documents, PDFs and plain text files through Drive content reading. Spreadsheets are read through the Sheets tools by range, which keeps large workbooks predictable instead of dumping a whole file into a conversation. Can it read documents shared with me but owned by someone else?
It reads what the signed-in Google account can open. A document shared with your account is visible, a document you have no access to is not. The Google permission model stays the permission model. Can it tell me who edited a document or what changed?
No. The connection reads document content. Comments, suggestions and revision history are outside it, so ask what the document says rather than who changed it.How current is the data?
Live. When you ask, the connector reads the document as it stands. An edit made a minute ago is visible to the next question.Where is my data stored?
CorpusIQ does not retain raw customer files or full connector response payloads. Retrieval happens on demand. Operational query logs may persist for up to 30 days. See our [security documentation](../security/) for the detail. How It Works¶
- You connect Google Workspace once and approve read access for Gmail, Calendar, Drive and Sheets.
- The Google Docs you can open become reachable through the Drive file tools.
- You add the CorpusIQ MCP server to ChatGPT. See the Quick Start guide.
- ChatGPT searches for the file, reads the content, and answers from the text.
- Answers name the document they came from, so the claim can be checked against the source.
Setup Guide¶
- Sign up at corpusiq.io. The 30-day trial needs no credit card.
- Connect Google Workspace in the CorpusIQ dashboard and approve the read scopes on the Google consent screen.
- Connect ChatGPT. Add the CorpusIQ MCP server per the Quick Start guide.
- Verify. Ask "find the documents I edited this week". If the file names look right, Drive access is working.
- Explore. Then ask the question that has meant opening four documents and comparing them by hand.
