How to Connect Bing Webmaster Tools to Claude with CorpusIQ MCP

Bing Webmaster Tools holds a second set of numbers about the same site, and almost nobody reads it. The console reports impressions and clicks over time, the queries that produced them, which URLs are actually in the index, how the crawler behaved, and how many inbound links each page has. Reading all of that means four screens and a date picker.

Connecting Bing Webmaster Tools to Claude through CorpusIQ MCP turns those screens into questions. You authorize read-only access once, ask in plain language, and the answer arrives with the site, the date range, and the source attached.

Why Connect Bing Webmaster Tools to Claude?

  • A second index is a second opinion. A site is rarely visible the same way on Bing and Google. The difference is usually technical, and it is cheaper to find it here than in a ranking report.
  • Queries with weak positions. "Which queries bring impressions with an average position worse than ten?" That is your content gap, written by your own audience.
  • Index and crawl health. "Is /pricing in the Bing index, and when was it last crawled?" A page that dropped out of the index shows here before it shows anywhere else.
  • Errors before traffic loss. "How many pages did Bing crawl last week, and did any return an error?" Crawl errors precede traffic declines.
  • Inbound links. "Which pages carry the most inbound links?" Useful for finding the pages worth strengthening.
  • Read-only by scope. The connector reads. It never submits a sitemap, changes crawl settings, or edits a verified site.

How It Works

  1. Connect Bing Webmaster Tools to CorpusIQ by signing in with the Microsoft account that has the site verified.
  2. Connect CorpusIQ to Claude as an MCP server, using the config block from your CorpusIQ account settings.
  3. CorpusIQ retrieves the verified site list, the daily impressions and clicks series, query performance, crawl statistics, and inbound link data for the site you choose.
  4. Claude answers from that retrieved content, naming the site and the window it used.

CorpusIQ uses read-only access for direct MCP live retrieval. It does not retain raw customer files or full connector response payloads; operational logs retain query text, per-user tool-call metadata, and bounded outcome summaries for up to 30 days.

Setup Steps

In CorpusIQ

  1. Log in and open Connectors.
  2. Select Bing Webmaster Tools.
  3. Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the verified site and approve read-only access.
  4. From the site list, select the exact verified URL you want to query. The other reads are scoped to that site.
  5. Copy the MCP config block shown under Settings, Integrations, Claude Desktop.

In Claude Desktop

  1. Open Settings, Developer, Edit Config. This opens claude_desktop_config.json.
  2. Add the CorpusIQ entry:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "corpusiq": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y", "mcp-remote",
        "https://www.corpusiq.io/mcp/direct-connection"
      ]
    }
  }
}
  1. Save the file and fully quit Claude Desktop. Not just the window: quit the application.
  2. Reopen Claude, complete the device login when prompted, and the tools indicator appears next to the message box.

If the tools indicator does not appear, work through Claude can't see CorpusIQ before changing anything else.

Example Claude Questions

Traffic

  • "How many impressions and clicks did the site get from Bing last month?"
  • "Compare Bing clicks this month with the same month last year."
  • "Which day had the biggest drop in impressions in the last 30 days?"

Queries

  • "Which queries bring impressions with an average position worse than ten?"
  • "Which queries get clicks but rank below the first page?"
  • "List the queries where impressions are rising and clicks are flat."

Index and crawl

  • "Is /pricing in the Bing index, and when was it last crawled?"
  • "How many pages did Bing crawl last week, and did any return an error?"
  • "Which URLs returned a 404 to the crawler this month?"

Links and cross-source

  • "Which pages carry the most inbound links?"
  • "Compare Bing clicks and Google clicks for the same month." (requires the Google Search Console connector)
  • "Which pages earn Bing impressions but no sessions in analytics?" (requires the analytics connector)

Security

  • Read-only by scope. The connector reads the verified site list, traffic series, query data, crawl statistics, and inbound links. It cannot submit sitemaps, change crawl settings, or modify a verified site.
  • Scoped to your verified sites. Only sites verified under the authorized Microsoft account appear, and every read is bounded to the site URL you selected.
  • Revocable at any time. Removing access in Bing Webmaster Tools, or disconnecting the Microsoft account, ends the connection.
  • Scoped direct-MCP retention. Direct MCP retrieval is read-only. Raw customer files and full connector payloads are not retained. Operational logs keep query text, per-user tool-call metadata, and bounded outcome summaries for up to 30 days.
  • TLS in transit between Bing, CorpusIQ, and Claude.

FAQ: Common Questions

Which sites can I connect? Every site the authorized Microsoft account has verified in Bing Webmaster Tools. A site that is not verified under that account will not appear in the list.
What does the traffic data actually contain? A daily time series of impressions and clicks for the verified site, plus totals over the requested window. Queries come back separately, with average impression position and average click position per query.
Why is average position misleading sometimes? Position in Bing is an average across impressions. A single query can look healthy in aggregate and still rank badly on the terms that convert, which is why per-query position is worth reading next to clicks rather than on its own.
Can I see crawl problems, not just traffic? Yes. The crawl statistics read returns crawled pages, the in-index count, inbound links, crawl errors, and the status codes the crawler received over time.
Does this need a Google account? No. Bing Webmaster Tools authorizes with a Microsoft account. Nothing about this connection touches Google, which is why it can sit beside a Google Search Console connection without conflict.
How current is the data? Every question is answered against the console at the moment you ask. There is no nightly copy of your Bing data behind the answers.
